About
In 1991, Antonio Sannino was working at a tailor workshop in Napoli where he perfected the one item: The Shirt. Allowing his focus to be given only to shirt making he was able to master the craft. Soon after he assembled a team of highly-skilled and trusted tailors to begin a small workshop. After 33-years, the second generation has come into the picture to bring their modern aesthetics and fuse it with the family tradition. Looking at trends, they are able to offer more options when it comes to design, such as western and safari inspired styles. They also hope to educate people on the art of hand-sewn garments and the impact it can make on a person’s wardrobe and the environment.
Process
A team of specialized tailors works on the construction of each shirt. These tailors have been perfecting their craft over decades, some have been working since the beginning of Camiceria Sannino but even the newest have 10 to 12 years of experience. Their great attention to detail and mastery of skill is showcased from collar to cuff.
Each tailor is specialized in one operation, so by the end of construction it has touched every specialist’s hands. These hand-sewn operations are not just about looks but serve a function. Features such as the placement of the buttons and buttonholes allow the shirt to sit better; the armhole provides ease of movement, the gusset gives strength, and the structuring of the collar will ensure it lies smoothly when worn. Overall, these hand-sewn details provide balance and comfort while looking neater than machine-sewn shirts.
Since its inception the Sannino’s have chosen to operate as a made-to-order shop, as they strongly believe in fighting back against overproduction. The Neapolitan style of creation allows for the shirt to last a lifetime which reduces waste and the need to replace.
